Aki Spicer

If you were ever wondering what Aki Spicer the planning director of Fallon worldwide is doing all day long, then you can find it out now. I just found his Yahoo live cast on the Fallon planning blog. According to his profile you are all the time welcome (I guess during working hours) to have a chat with him about brands and the social web. Let’s see if he is still here, when I finished my meetings.

I’m not sure what do with it but I signed up too. Let’s see what happens. If you feel like – follow me and let’s have a chat about mobile providers and campaign glue.

Software for free

Adobe released yesterday Photoshop Express, which is the online and free version of Photoshop. I think it’s interesting that more and more software is web based. Office is already available and now also Adobe is starting to offer products via internet. Another interesting fact is that like all other services that were released in the last months there is a basic version for free available and a premium version for user’s that are willing to pay. Looks like that the business model is changing somehow. Premium services are the cash cow’s and the basic versions should create buzz. Cannibalization seems to play just a little role between the two different levels. I’m curious if there is an iPhone version available too, seems like that there is a special version for every software that get’s released nowadays.

Nicholas Negroponte – predictions about the future

Yesterday I found Nicholas Negroponte’s speech about the future of computers, technology and design at the first TED talks in 1984. I assume that the videos he is using in the presentation are containing stuff from the MIT labs at that time and it’s really impressive what tools and software they have developed back then. I think Nicholas Negroponte was 24 years ago more up to date than most of us today. In his speech he is covering topics of touchscreen interfaces and the one laptop per child project that just got the attention of the masses in the last 2-3 years, just visionary and brilliant.

Frozen Zurich Main Station

We all remember the frozen grand central station in New York from ImprovEverywhere, it’s one the most viewed clips on YouTube this year.

When I was in Zurich the last weekend I accidentally crashed into the swiss version of this kind of street art. Like in New York they choose the central station as their stage. I think it’s quite interesting how fast ideas are nowadays spreading around the globe.

Here is my footage:

And these two clips were uploaded by somebody else:

So which city will be next?

Partner wanted – Young Lions 2008 Competition

The Austrian national broadcaster (ORF) and the Cannes Lions Festival are hosting also this year the young lions competition. It is the first time that young guys can participate at a media challenge next to print, film and cyber. To win an all inclusive trip to Cannes you and your partner need to challenge a brief within 24/48 hours.

I’m looking for a partner who wants to team up with me for the media competition. The briefing for a media strategy will be on the 5th of April and the application deadline is on the 4th. You should have an easy-going personality and be fucking brilliant while working as media planner, strategic planner, account manager or something similar. If you are interested, please leave a comment or contact me via one of the obvious social networking platforms.

Essential books for strategic planners and accounts

I started to put together a list of books that should be a rough guideline for people that are interested in advertising or just started to work in an agency. My focus is on literature for strategic planners and accounts and not necessarily for creative departments, sorry. The collection should cover both classics about advertising but also the latest books especially from other related disciplines. I collected the following books over the last months, my source was mainly blogs of other planners or people working in the industry. If you have the feeling that I forgot an important book, please leave a comment.

Decentralized communication XING group

Yesterday the DCNTRL’s invited my to join their Xing group about decentralized communication networks as a moderator. Let’s see how this communication platform develops and how many other people are interested in collaborations in the field of marketing and communication. If you want to chat with us about empowered individuals drop by.

Free products and services?

I just found Twitxr, it allows you to twitter and integrate pictures into your posts.
1. Take a picture
2. Type a short text
3. Post it
If you would add a comment feature to Twitxr you could call it blog.

But the interesting thing about all this new applications and tools is that with the launch of the service there is most of the time also a iPhone version, public API and some widgets for existing services available. Looks like that developers don’t think about the product anymore but also care about users. Or in other words not only products are getting free but also services.

Netvibes Ginger

My most favorite RSS reader and by far the most useful tool in the web that I discovered in the last months got updated. Netvibes is since yesterday available in the new Ginger edition. As an early adopter I signed up for getting migrated and now it’s done. I haven’t figured out yet what to do but it looks like they attached a social network feature to netvibes. This makes it very easy to share your RSS feeds and all other widgets with the whole web. If you want you can follow me now at: http://www.netvibes.com/eranium.

On the netvibes blog I found a full list of new features.
